A Pathway to Sustainable Success: Understanding Your Unique System
Sustainable success lies in understanding your unique system.
Let me elaborate. Your mind, your neural network, and your nervous system twitches and glitches - your default mode - the how, when, why and where you do what you do - is all an intricate web. A system unique to you and your life experience.
Most of us dive into personal development work, goal achievement, business building, and more, paying attention only to the symptoms that present themselves along the way. But symptom resolution has us playing whac-a-mole in an endless cycle, where the same actions lead to the same results.
Approaching challenges through symptoms is reading a book to figure out how to be less afraid of being visible, planning out the posts you want to write for your business, not sticking to the plan, then seeking more ideas of how to ‘do it right’ because you must not be, ‘thinking’ your way through the ‘problem’ in rumination cycles. It’s setting a goal to start tomorrow for a fresh day, yet finding yourself not being able to keep your promise to yourself anyway.
You’re stuck making turns and pivots yet no matter what, you’re still in the perspective of being inside of the maze of your own conditioning, instead of seeing it from above.
A Systems approach requires radical honesty with yourself - to truly take a look at your ACTUAL presenting patterns and starting to see how they impact each other. It involves getting to know your values (both ideal and real), noting your strengths, identifying your obstacles, and noticing your opportunities. It can get really uncomfortable to begin to admit and accept the fact that the lack of desired changes in your life just might have to do with…you! That’s not to lay blame and fuel your inner critic (god knows it doesn’t need any MORE fodder.) A Systems approach DOES give you a new perspective, an understanding of your own self as a living, breathing network. And much like an operations consultant goes into a business setting to assess, identity, and impact change, you can then approach your own life and self from that perspective.
Understanding the type of system you are allows you to embrace the full spectrum of your reality. If you are aware of the way you think, what stories impact your decision-making, and the way your nervous system responds (often in very predictable patterns), all of a sudden, the very things that seemed difficult become much more manageable.
Instead of getting stuck in cycles of procrastination, self-criticism, or shame - you can begin to consciously choose your reality.
Imagine how much more impactful and effective your effort would be at this level of self-awareness. Speaking up at work while equipped with the talk track that your brain will serve up when faced with the pressure of everyone’s expectations. Navigating the tough conversation with your direct rapport with an understanding of your likely hang-ups in the moment. Getting unstuck with the latest business dilemma because you know that your system requires you to talk through an issue in real-time with a trustworthy person.
Understanding the intricacies of your neural network and acknowledging your presenting patterns empowers you to consciously navigate life's challenges. By embracing radical honesty and self-awareness, you can break free from the cycles that hold you back and make impactful, practical choices. You are a living, breathing network, and with this newfound perspective, you hold the power to shape your reality and unlock your true potential. So, take the plunge into a system-minded self-discovery, and watch as your efforts become more purposeful and your success more sustainable than ever before.
